i’m sitting in my car, waiting to feel ready to transition back into grocery shopping. i made a list, and dont need much. i was searching for conch, for our Bahamian cooking stream, but it seems to not be around. Ander saw it a couple weeks ago, but it must have sold out. we decided to switch gears and make BAO instead. bao to freeze and stream when we want, instead of buying premade ones for $1 each. we have all the ingredients, besides the pork, which doesn’t surprise me, we’ve become quite stocked on international spices and ingredients. i stopped to have lunch at a food truck behind the grocery store i went to. the man was so kind. he brought the food to me, and proceeded to bring me a dish of water to rinse my hands. he seemed surprised that i immediately knew what it was for, maybe often people think you’re supposed to drink it. while i waited for my pancake, i sketched the folding table and chairs in front of me, enjoying the ambiance of colonial and the shade of the tree above me. i could hear the sizzle and then i began to smell the garlic, i almost wanted to cry, my senses were so happy.
